Balfour Brut Rosé
Recently we have become fans of sparkling wines from Kent in the south east of England. Modern day English wines are (fortunately) a far cry from their predecessors of not so long ago
Over recent years the Kent wine offering has improved considerably with Vineyards such as Balfour, Chapel Down, Gusbourne, Nytimber and Silverhand producing excellent quality product. We are pleased to be able to offer two Balfour sparkling wines from our cellar.
Tessa (Azienda Bollani, Malvaglia)
Ticino is also a strong wine growing region. White Merlot is often served as an aperitif here, an excellent choice on a hot summers day.
One of our favourite local white's is Tessa from Malvaglia in the Val di Blenio. A blend of Souvignier Gris, Joannither and Bronner it makes a delightful aperetif at the end of a hot summers.
Since living here I have also discovered a refreshing white called Lugana. Despite it’s name it has little to do with Lugano (other than it being where we discovered it).
Soft Drinks
Gazosa: (Italian for “gas-containing) is a clear, alcohol-free, sweetened, carbonated lemonade from Italy and the Swiss Canton of Ticino.
Similar to Lemonade, Gazosa has more flavour and few devotees return to regular lemonade.
Gazosa was initially served in a green glass bottle with a cork. Like Champagne the cork was, held in place with wire. This lead to the name “Champagne of the poor”. Later this was replaced by a clear glass bottle with a glass marble stopper. The modern version comes with a ceramic stopper which stll lets out a “pop” when opened.
Gazose Starnini
Gazose Starnini have been making their product in Biasca since 1916. They produce three flavours, Limone (Lemon), Mandarino (Manderin) and Lampone (Raspberry).
