Vacation With Us

The Ruvigliana Flat

Our flat is located in the Lugano suburb of Ruvigliana on the slopes of Monte Brè. A city apartment, it is our personal space which we would like to share with selected guests so that they can experience 'Our Lugano'.

Located near enough to the city to provide easy access. The centre is a moderate (40 minute) walk away or a short, direct bus ride (15 minute). It is also 15 minutes walk from the Suvigliana stop on the Monte Brè funicular railway. The apartment is also remote enough to be peaceful.

The apartment has one bedroom with a kitchen / living room and south facing views across the lake to Monte San Salvatore. A bathroom with shower completes the internal space. The outdoor space comprises a shaddy terrace and a garden.

We are evolving a guide to help to share our Lugano, a personal journey which we hope you will enjoy sharing. A selection of attractions, places to eat and shops are described in the 'Vacation with Us' pages on the web site and with your order confirmation.

We are also developing some pages to share our learning about the property itself.

The House (Ponto Valentino)

In contrast to The Flat, The House is located in a rural location in the heart of Valle di Blenio. Ideal for lovers of magnificent views and fresh air, it is popular with walkers and cyclists in the summer, kilometers of cross country trails at Campra during the winter. The resort of Nara, nearby, serves skiers and tobogganing in winter and mountain biking through the summer months.

The House was bought as a "renovation project" in 2020 with the intention of completing the work by 2025. As with many such projects, the deadline has long passed and we still have much to do. We have a Project Plan for the works, however, the plan is without dates.

Hampered by construction and family challenges, and challenged further by the contrast between costs of building work in Switzerland and the size of our bank account, our labour of love has, at times felt like an impossible task. On a number of occasions we have contemplated giving up. However, we continue.

At 130 years old, with 11 rooms and some further outbuildings, the renovation is a massive undertaking, especially as we have so little experience in construction. If we were honest with ourselves we would admit that we have taken on too much. However, we manage to put such thoughts to aside and carry on.

We are chronicling the project here, both to share with friends and family, and as a tool to motivate ourselves. You will find all we know about the history of the house, which flows into our time with the house, including our current work in progress, and our future vision.

We will soon add a link to the Valle di Blenio guide pages for your delectation
