House Time Line

1895 Construction

The House was constructed in 1895 by Guiseppe Vescovi. We believe the gentleman in this picture is Mr Vescovi. Given its size and location, the property clearly had significant status in the village.

Early Photographs (Date Unknown

We found some early photographs of the house in the online archives of the Foundation of Roberto Donetta (La Fondazione dell'Archivio fotografico di Roberto Donetta - https://archiviodonetta.ch/). We have requested permission to use them here.

1928: Documents

During our renovations we discovered some old documents under the attic floor. This appears to be a receipt for payment of CHF 50 in tax for the use of some land above Olivone.

1936: Renovation

We have the Vescovi family crest on the front of the building. This states the building was renovated in 1936. Based on the work we have done we think this was the last time the building underwent significant renovation work.

1978: Storms

On the 7th and 8th of August 1978 there was a massive storm in Ticino. The majority of the canton suffered considerable damage. The storms where so bad that a book as been published documenting the damage (ā€œL’Alluvioneā€ published by Armando Dado Editore https://www.editore.ch/shop/libri/grandi-eventi-del-ticino/lalluvione/ ).

Rosa Vescovi

We believe the last person to live in the house before us was Rosa Vescovi who lived to 105 years old. The house is painted pink in her honour.

2000: Roof Replacement (approximate date)

We believe the roof was replaced around 2000 (by Mauro Vescovi).
